こんにちは, 皆. Since I’m learning Japanese, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned so far over here, for anyone interested in learning, and to create a timeline on my blog for myself.

「がいます」ga i masu.

Noun が います/あります

This simple sentence is used to describe the place, the existence of an object, or the person. The object or person here is the subject of the sentence and is denoted by the participle 「が」.

「あります」is used for non-moving subjects such as objects and plants.

鉛筆があります。They are pencils.

「います」is used for moving objects, such as humans and animals. 犬がいます。There is a dog.

「いません」i ma sen.

いません/ありません

いません: Negative form of 「います」- yes, live. (exist, used for humans and animals).

あいません: Negative form of「あります」- yes. (exist, used for objects).

の no

Noun 1 の Noun 2

「の」links two nouns, in which Noun 1 modifies Noun 2. In this sentence, の is used to indicate possession. Specifically, Noun 1 will explain who Noun 2 is owned by. 私の猫。watashi no neko. My cat.

Please note that I’m still a beginner in Japanese, and I’m self-studying with the resources available to me, so there is still room for error. If I’ve written something wrong, then feel free to comment below, or DM me at my Insta account: https://www.instagram.com/xthevintagebookshelfx/

For anyone who wants to learn any new languages, I recommend ‘Duolingo’ and ‘Udemy’. For specifically Japanese, I use ‘Hiragana Pro’, ‘Katakana Pro’, ‘Write Japanese’, and ‘Hey Japan’. All these apps are fairly easy to use, and their design is simple and pretty.

I hope this article helps those who read it. Till next time, take care. じゃ。
